Virtual GP consultations
See a GP virtually, with support from our team and TytoCare
TytoCare gives the Strandon Health team another way to connect you with the GP care you need.
By combining virtual healthcare technology with support from our team at the practice, TytoCare allows you to have a GP consultation in a way that still feels familiar. You will come into Strandon Health as usual, where a member of our team will welcome you and support you throughout your appointment.
You will speak face to face with one of our GPs through a private video connection. Unlike a standard video appointment, TytoCare uses specialised equipment that allows the GP to examine you remotely and receive useful clinical information during the consultation.
You do not need to bring any equipment or feel confident using technology. Our team will manage the process so you can focus on speaking with the GP and getting the care you need.
What is TytoCare?
TytoCare is technology designed specifically for virtual healthcare consultations.
During your appointment, a member of the Strandon Health team can use the TytoCare equipment under the GP’s direction. Depending on your symptoms, this may allow the GP to:
- Look inside your ears
- Examine your throat
- Listen to your heart
- Listen to your lungs
- Check your heart rate
- Measure your temperature
- View certain skin concerns
The images, sounds and readings are securely shared with the GP during your consultation. This helps them assess your symptoms and recommend the appropriate next steps.
What happens during a TytoCare consultation?
1. Book your appointment
Call Strandon Health to make an appointment as you normally would. Our reception team will let you know if your appointment will be held using TytoCare.
2. Come to the practice
Your consultation takes place at Strandon Health. Please arrive and check in with reception as you normally would for an appointment.
3. Meet with your GP virtually
You will speak directly with the GP through a private video connection. They will ask about your symptoms, medical history and any concerns you would like to discuss.
4. Complete any necessary examinations
If an examination would be helpful, a member of our team will use the TytoCare equipment under the GP’s direction. The GP can see or hear the results as they are captured, including images of your ear or throat and sounds from your heart or lungs.
5. Discuss the next steps
The GP will explain their assessment and what should happen next. This may include health advice, a prescription, further testing, follow-up care or an in-person examination.
What can be discussed during a virtual GP consultation?
TytoCare can support the assessment and management of many concerns commonly discussed with a GP, including:
- Coughs, colds and flu-like symptoms
- Sore throats
- Ear pain or possible ear infections
- Breathing or respiratory concerns
- Fevers
- Some skin concerns
- General health concerns
- Ongoing health conditions
- Medication reviews
- Follow-up appointments
The examination required will depend on your symptoms and individual circumstances.
Some concerns cannot be fully assessed during a virtual consultation. If the GP decides that you need an in-person examination, testing or another form of care, they will explain the recommended next steps.
You will be supported throughout
We understand that a virtual GP consultation may feel unfamiliar at first. You will not be expected to manage the technology or equipment yourself.
A member of the Strandon Health team will be there to:
- Help you prepare for the consultation
- Explain what will happen
- Operate the TytoCare equipment
- Follow the GP’s examination instructions
- Answer practical questions about the process
The appointment remains focused on the same thing as any other GP consultation: listening to your concerns and helping you access the care you need.
